Our builder gave me this piece of wood.

Emma Pugmire, Charles Thomson and myself were in attendance this week. There’s not much uniform about tonights editions, tottering alignment and bleeding the top and bottom off the page leaves nowhere attractive to sign. The printing is as much part of the creative process as any other.

Upper row of oil paintings. Lower row of self-portrait woodcuts. All drying.

Three three foot, deep edge hessian canvases. The goat’s painted over a Harry Adams painting they rejected, but kindly gave me to use, along with the other two blanks. Now the guitar playing video has been sent for L’ABC de la peinture diaporama, I think it’s just a case of printing the posters, and getting them to Paris.

Rather than renailing the under-board, to hold the carvings in place, as the parosol is rolled over, or as you penguin walk over the paper, blu-tac works. Failing that, drawing pins. Rolling over with a stone makes the final image look as if it were carved in stone. In terms of trouser hangers that don’t drop A1 paintings, only Marks & Spencer and IKEA Bumerang are yet to lose grip.

Carving up more of yesterdays toxin free pallet. Linocuts fallen by the wayside, at least those without light sketch marks. Tomorrow night is blackivory.org print club, where the only productive work I can do is edition printing, as it’s fairly mechanical and, unlike drawing, can cope with discussion, distraction and the not constant, but irregular interruption. Drawing, or anything more creative than print-factory work has to be done in preparation. Todays small wood blocks,  are Album 1 Createspace inner sleeve art.

Pallets marked MB contain methyl bromide, a health hazard. I found one, but marked HT early this morning, round the back of Muswell Hill high street, so considered it safe to drag into the back garden, cut up into 10cm square squares, and start carving into DVD cover block prints. Whatever wood it is, I guess a soft pine, is ideal. Used an A4 pencil square drawing for the first image, an Elbow Sisters DVD cover. To go in my eventual online shop. May use the same print in L’ABC de la Peinture Paris cafe exhibition in March, dates for which are now confirmed: Thu 2nd March – Fri 17th March 2017.
