The Other Muswell Hill Stuckists motto

Another allegedly authentic anti-anti-art, anti-abstract, affectation addicted, anonymity abhorring, adequately acclaim admiring, ambition ashamed, astute, analytical argument appreciating, ability absent, aptitude amiss, adolescent attitude afflicted, artificial amazement accommodating, assessment avoiding, arbitrarily appointed, angsty, amateur artist association. Arms affectionately asunder, absorbing affection. Also aspiring after acutely apt artworld acceptance, awards, accolades, attention and approval aloft. Actor accusations are altogether affirmed, as abhorant arrogant arseholes are always abominably abusive amongst associates (alienation aside), although always appear approximately accurate. An ardent authoritarian argument arbitrates aloud. Almost audible! Address abundant accomplices! An active, adventurous alternative analogy asking anyone around apologetic answerless audits around any available acting audience arena. Away already! Awake aimless audacity! Artifices ahead! Angrily applaud abandoned acquaintances! Aggressive allies attack answerable absentees! Acknowledge aloof atrocity! Accept approbation! Assign artworld attribution! Assume abnormal accustomed accountability! Attract activist authored accomplishments! Amended addled accounts! Automatic autobiographies! Attain admittance! Allot adversaries additional allocations! Absolve answerability! Accelerate application! Agenda asphyxiation accomplished! Abort acrimonious altercation! Antagonism alleviating ass! Avalanches abound!!! Annihilate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Appetite appeased. Abhorrent, albeit appropriate attire. Anyway.

Charles Thomson discovers a new style of painting

Charles is at my house, and asks to paint. I provide the materials, a canvas, studio, some acrylic paint, then a drastically new style of Charles Thomson painting. I interviewed him about it immediately afterwards. From this, he goes on a painting binge.

Stuckism is Wrong – Art Manifesto

STUCKISM IS WRONG
100ish pointless points.

Stuckism is wrong manifesto.

1. Coherent literature is for people with no imagination.
2. Instant splatter gun publishing curates itself.
3. Bad art is either bad or good. Good art is both bad and good. Good art looks bad.
4. Video ref VAR officials to call offside without digital rulers within 30 secs, or give it as onside. The digital rulers are the problem. Not where you draw the line.
5. I’ve invented a new literature. Aesphonly. Aesthetic + Phonetic Only. No dictionary or other meanings. Not to be confused with automatic writing, dada, free writing, surrealism or stream of consciousness. Words + sentences formed for their aesthetic + phonetic qualities only. Text as art + music. Aka Tart Sick – see Stag.
6. All art books to be paperback, matt finish.
7. Stuckism is freedom from respect, from both the establishment right, and the hipster left. Stuckism is right.
8. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 16: “The Stuckist gives up the laborious task of playing games of novelty, shock and gimmick.” Art manifesto writing is the laborious task of playing games of novelty, shock and gimmick. Stuckism is wrong.
9. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 16: “realism over abstraction”. Abstraction is real. Stuckism is wrong.
10. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 5: “Art that has to be in a gallery to be art isn’t art.” Art in a gallery isn’t art. Not a logical contradiction / play on words. What was art before it was in a gallery, is art no more, when it is. Stuckism is wrong.
11. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 15: “The ego-artist’s constant striving for public recognition results in a constant fear of failure”. The ego-Stuckists constant striving for public recognition results in a constant fear of more Turner Prize demos. Stuckism is wrong.
12. The Other Muswell Hill Stuckist is opposed to the sterility of the contemporary live music system and calls for gigs to be held in homes and musty printmaking studios, with access to sofas, tables, chairs and cups of tea. The surroundings in which live music is experienced (rather than heard) should not be artificial and vacuous. Stuckism is right.
13. Galleries are zoos.
14. “Paradigm”, “ephemeral”, “toxic” and “zeitgeist” to lose their word status, and only be used for their aesphonly value.
15. Galleries hang art.
16. Poets invented artificial intelligence.
17. CONTINENTAL ART LEAGUE:
1. EUROPE
2. ASIA
3. AFRICA
4. SOUTH AMERICA
5. NORTH AMERICA
6. ANTARCTICA
7. AUSTRALIA
18. It is the Stuckist’s duty to always be wrong. Stuckism is right.
19. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 11: “Post Modernism, in its adolescent attempt to ape the clever and witty in modern art, has shown itself to be lost in a cul-de-sac of idiocy. What was once a searching and provocative process (as Dadaism) has given way to trite cleverness for commercial exploitation.” If Post Modernism’s lost, it’s searching. If Stuckism’s writing about it, it’s provocative. Stuckism is wrong.
20. Contemporary art says everything is art, referencing Duchamp. Any word defined by another is redundant. Everything being art strips art of independent meaning. Stuckism is the open-minded liberator of art, and of conceptual art. Stuckism is the best thing to happen to conceptual art. Contemporary art does conceptual art a disservice by thoughtlessly slinging it in with art. Stuckism is right. Conceptual art to champion Stuckism as its liberator, the only voice brave enough to declare conceptual art’s true form and value. Duchamp would be a rabid Stuckist.
21. The theory of relativity is art theory. Anyone who adopts a fixed position on art finds the truth inconvenient.
22. Painting is better than conceptual art because conceptual art doesn’t have paint, but paintings have concepts.
23. Films are bad dreams.
24. Humiliation is freedom. Reputation is prison. The Stuckist Turner Prize demo preemptively cleanses the dedicated protester of respect and credibility. Stuckism is right.
25. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 9: “The Stuckist is not a career artist but rather an amateur (amare, Latin, to love) who takes risks on the canvas rather than hiding behind ready-made objects (e.g. a dead sheep).” Hiding behind dead sheep is more dangerous than painting. Stuckism is wrong.
26. Anything calling itself a creative, or artistic, hub, isn’t.
27. Stuckism is right to say “Artists who don’t paint aren’t artists”. Not as a logical contradiction/ play on words, but as it’s commonly misunderstood: If you don’t paint, you’re not an artist.  Arts live in different levels of human. Shallow ones, like photography and abstract painting, can be taken or left. Figurative painting’s deep, so if you’re not figurative painting, you’re not an artist.
28. CONTINENTAL MUSIC LEAGUE:
1. NORTH AMERICA
2. ASIA
3. AFRICA
4. SOUTH AMERICA
5. EUROPE
6. ANTARCTICA
7. AUSTRALIA
29. My music isn’t shit. It’s avant-garde.
30. Professionalism, curation and style are just ways of hiding art, for the sake of presenting artists.
31. Kids have better priorities than adults.
32. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 19: “We further call for the policy of entrapping rich and untalented students from at home and abroad to be halted forthwith.” We further call for Stuckism’s policy of entrapping rich and untalented painters from at home and abroad to be halted forthwith. Stuckism is wrong.
33. A bad singer is a good singer, that hasn’t found the right aesphonly for his voice.
34. Someone who hates a song is someone who likes the song, that hasn’t heard it sung with the right aesphonly for his ears.
35. A bad writer is a good writer, that hasn’t found the right aesphonly for his hands.
36. Someone who hates a book is someone who likes the book, that hasn’t seen it written with with the right aesphonly for his eyes.
37. Artists are worse filterers than galleries.
38. Arm bands are useless clothes, and clothes are useless arm bands.
39. STUCKISM MANIFESTO: “Against conceptualism, hedonism and the cult of the ego-artist.” STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 1: ” the Stuckist allows him/herself uncensored expression.” Stuckism is wrong to stand against hedonism while advocating uncensored expression.
40. No-one can help re-writing everything they read and hear, and re-envisioning everything they see.
41. No real artist would voluntarily go on a holiday.
42. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 7: “Success to the Stuckist is to get out of bed in the morning and paint.” and STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 9: “the Stuckist is not afraid to fail”. Hardly surprising. Stuckism is wrong.
43. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 19: “The Stuckists call for an open policy of admission to all art schools based on the individual’s work regardless of his/her academic record, or so-called lack of it…We also demand that all college buildings be available for adult education and recreational use of the indigenous population of the respective catchment area. “ Contemporary art is going nowhere till the government stop funding and teaching it. Stuckism is wrong to call for an open policy of admission to all art schools based on the individual’s work regardless of his/her academic record, or so-called lack of it, and to demand that all college buildings be available for adult education and recreational use of the indigenous population of the respective catchment area. Art schools should be bulldozed and turned into allotments.
44. Contemporary artists aren’t artists. Contemporary artists are a brand.
45. If the ball goes out of play after hitting the post or crossbar, the attacking side to be awarded a corner, regardless of which teams player it came off of.
46. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 2: Painting is the medium of self-discovery. It engages the person fully with a process of action, emotion, thought and vision, revealing all of these with intimate and unforgiving breadth and detail.” Music is a medium of self-discovery. It engages the person fully with a process of action, emotion, thought and vision, revealing all of these with intimate and unforgiving breadth and detail. Stuckism is wrong.
47. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 3: “Stuckism proposes a model of art which is holistic. It is a meeting of the conscious and unconscious, thought and emotion, spiritual and material, private and public.” Cave paintings propose a model of art which is holistic. It is a meeting of the conscious and unconscious, thought and emotion, spiritual and material, private and public. Stuckism is wrong.
48. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 10: “Painting is mysterious. It creates worlds within worlds, giving access to the unseen psychological realities that we inhabit. The results are radically different from the materials employed. An existing object (e.g. a dead sheep) blocks access to the inner world and can only remain part of the physical world it inhabits, be it moorland or gallery.” A dead sheep is mysterious. It creates worlds within worlds, giving access to the unseen psychological realities that we inhabit. The results are radically different from the materials employed. Stuckism is wrong.
49. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 14: “Brit Art, in being sponsored by Saachis, main stream conservatism and the Labour government, makes a mockery of its claim to be subversive or avant-garde.” Being sponsored by Saachis, main stream conservatism and the Labour government doesn’t mean not being subversive or avant-garde. I’ve seen subversive and avant-garde end up on Top of the Pops. Things aren’t so binary. Stuckism is wrong.
50. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 3: “Modernism is a school of fragmentation — one aspect of art is isolated and exaggerated to detriment of the whole.” Modernism only appears to isolate and exaggerate to detriment of the whole, when you isolate and exaggerate selected Modernist works. Stuckism is wrong.
51. The Other Muswell Hill Stuckists stands for You’ll Believe Anything.
52. Self-expression is for artists with nothing to say.
53. Art behind glass is invisible.
54. Art in a frame is a trophy.
55. Art made with assistants is a Blue Peter project.
56. Art on white walls are sperm dying slow and painful deaths in a cold petri dish. Stuckism is right.
57. Don’t believe the Picasso hate. Ex-girlfriends are bitter liars.
58. Comedy isn’t art because tripping over is funny, and isn’t art.
59. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 1: “Stuckism is the quest for authenticity.” and STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 15: “the futility of all striving. The Stuckist doesn’t strive — which is to avoid who and where you are”. Questing is a strive. Stuckism is wrong.
60. The Other Muswell Hill Stuckists advocate deckchair socialism, iphone socialism, Amazoner socialism, meat eating vegetarianism and man eating feminism. It’s no one’s fault sausages are so yummy. To expect a first world socialist to exist without an iphone, Amazon and Ebay account is inhumane.
61. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 7: “The Stuckist is not mesmerised by the glittering prizes, but is wholeheartedly engaged in the process of painting.” The Stuckist is not mesmerised by the glittering prizes, but is wholeheartedly engaged in the process of winning them. Stuckism is wrong.
62. The academic is academic.
63. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 20: “We only denounce that which stops at the starting point” Stuckism is right to call itself an international non-movement. Stuckism wrongly calls itself an “art movement”. It’s just a grouping, like the Royal Academy Summer Show, or The London Group. The term “art movement” to be reserved for when an artistic movement happens in how art is made, that wasn’t already there. Like Surrealism, Impressionism, Pop Art, Dada, Minimalism, Fauvism, Cubism, Abstract Expressionism etc. Stuckist art doesn’t even have an identity from which a movement could happen. It stops at the starting point. Stuckism is wrong.
64. If VAR can intervene when outfield players encroach the area when a penalty’s being taken, why can’t they when the goalie encroaches off his line?
65. Progressive does to politics what it did to rock.
66. Artists with CV’s aren’t artists. Not a logical contradiction / play on words.
67. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 15: “The Stuckist risks failure wilfully and mindfully by daring to transmute his/her ideas through the realms of painting.” and STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 9: “the Stuckist is not afraid to fail” Daring to transmute ideas through the realms of painting, is the cowardly shunning of true artistic process, for fear of failure. Using the realms of painting to transmute ideas, is like using a Ferrari to deliver a milk round. Art doesn’t need artists chipping in with their own ideas. Stuckism is wrong.
68. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 10: “An existing object (e.g. a dead sheep) blocks access to the inner world and can only remain part of the physical world it inhabits, be it moorland or gallery.” Nothing remains part of the physical world it inhabits. Stuckism is wrong.
69. Harps to be awarded guitar status. Bass guitars to lose their guitar status.
70. Contemporary art declares all art to be either respectable or irrelevant. There’s never been a better time to be irrelevant, or a worse time to be widely respected.
71. Women go mental in drunken fights because they think they’re protecting their young. Men don’t because they need to live to hunt another day.
72. Pigs are happy in shit because they’re cleverer than galleries.
73. No-one is imaginative. Thoughts are seen, not had.
74. Galleries only take performance artists.
75. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 11: “Post Modernism, in its adolescent attempt to ape the clever and witty in modern art, has shown itself to be lost in a cul-de-sac of idiocy.” Stuckism, in being wrong, has shown itself to be lost in a cul-de-sac of idiocy. Stuckism is wrong.
76. Comfortable artists have retired.
77. Surrealism’s arbitrary free associations are a boring surrender, a desperate attempt to be interesting by artists with nothing to offer. See Shin Detonator.
78. All good art is OCD.
79. Art history is history.
80. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 13: “Stuckism is anti ‘ism’.” Brit Art is anti ‘ism’ because it doesn’t have ‘ism’ in it. Stuckism is wrong.
81. Curation is genocide.
82. Humans don’t misspell words. Dictionaries are incomplete and always out of date.
83. Artists depicting emotional faces to make their art seem emotional, to be exposed as hacks, convicted of stolen valor and restricted to portrait photography.
84. The idea that artists are the worst judges of their own work because their judgement is clouded by personal feelings towards it, is wrong, because the same is true of everyone. There’s no such thing as a neutral observer.
85. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 15: Stuckist doesn’t strive — which is to avoid who and where you are. No it isn’t. Stuckism is wrong.
86. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 12: “Against the jingoism of Brit Art and the ego-artist.” Stuckism’s ego and jingoism makes Brit Art look like a Stuckist. Stuckism is wrong.
87. Restoration is plastic surgery. Everything it’s touched is a fake.
88. Literal and satirical art needs war. See point 67.
89. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 11: “What was once a searching and provocative process” and STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 16: “The Stuckist neither looks backwards nor forwards”. Make your mind up. Stuckism is wrong.
90. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 2: “Painting is the medium of self-discovery.” Self-discovery can be performed just as well with other things. Even photography. Stuckism is wrong.
91. Constant criticism is self-description.
92. Constant self-description is a cover up.
93. Get free therapy! Become a therapist.
94. There’s no point trying to sell art everyone doesn’t already have.
95. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 7: “Success to the Stuckist is to get out of bed in the morning and paint.” Successful painters don’t need to worry if it’s morning or not when they get out of bed. Stuckism is wrong.
96. Art that doesn’t cost money isn’t art.
97. Expression is a distraction.
98. A photograph of someone isn’t a portrait, because photography is nothing.
99. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 14: “Brit Art, in being sponsored by Saachis, main stream conservatism and the Labour government, makes a mockery of its claim to be subversive or avant-garde.” and STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 18: “The Stuckist is opposed to the sterility of the white wall gallery system “ Stuckism, in being sponsored by main stream conservative galleries, and becoming darlings of the white wall gallery system, makes a mockery of its claim to be opposed to the sterility of the white wall gallery system. Stuckism is wrong.
100. Art manifestos aren’t art manifiestos. Art is art manifestos. Art manifestos are worthless and misleading. Stuckism is right.
101. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 20: “We only denounce that which stops at the starting point — Stuckism starts at the stopping point!” Art movements are boring. The Other Muswell Hill Stuckists are an art stationary. The Stuckists are right to be stuck, but The Other Muswell Hill Stuckists are stucker because we don’t get started at any point. The Other Muswell Hill Stuckists stop at the stopping point, and refuse to recognise a starting point. Stuckism is wrong.
102. STUCKISM MANIFESTO POINT 11: “Post Modernism, in its adolescent attempt to ape the clever and witty in modern art, has shown itself to be lost in a cul-de-sac of idiocy.” Turf wars with other types of art are wrong, and won by the least engaged side. Stuckism is wrong.
