The text in the books includes: This is a book of original acrylic paintings by Heckel’s Horse Jr. I’m also known as The Camden Market Free Art Man. My real name is Edgeworth Johnstone.Heckel’s Horse Jr. works are based on the Heckel’s Horse paintings I make in collaboration with Billy Childish. Since 2013 Billy and I have made roughly 200 Heckel’s Horse paintings together at his studio in Chatham Dockyard. I’m younger than Billy so call myself “Jr.” when it comes to Heckel’s Horse Jr. paintings. The vast majority of Heckel’s Horse paintings are either 6x5 foot or 6x4 foot on deep edge Belgian linen stretched canvas. Billy and I have been wanting to do a Heckel’s Horse show, pretty much since we started painting them, but to put it extremely mildly, the relevant gallery people have been less than enthusiastic. A few years ago we tried for a Heckel’s Horse book, but it seems that whatever we do gets booted into the long grass and forgotten about. So around 2022, I thought “F**k it” I’ll just do my own versions so the anti-art brigade don’t have any control over them. I did 8 or so versions of Heckel’s Horse paintings under the alias Heckel’s Horse Jr. and exhibited them at Black Ivory, where Stuckism founder Charles Thomson interviewed me about the work.
